School of Performing Arts

Our School of Performing Arts

St Michael’s Collegiate is renowned for its commitment to the performing arts. The School of Performing Arts (SPA) is our exciting and innovative ‘school within a school’ which is a specialist offering to talented students in Years 8 to 10.  This program provides a high calibre performing arts experience, so students can develop as communicative artists, able to reach within themselves to affect and move audiences.

Across the key disciplines of acting, dance and singing, we build on the core skills students already have in their chosen area, and provide further opportunities through technical training, master classes, specialised tutoring and workshops, performance evenings and eisteddfods. It all takes place in the McNeill Performing Arts Centre, home to a 250-seat theatre, dance studio, drama studio, practice rooms and dressing rooms.

The SPA Program aims to extend students in many ways. It includes creating performances both for the School community and wider public audiences. The students are also exposed to a range of local and interstate concerts and performances.

We have designed SPA to prepare students to audition for a range of performing arts schools and to act as a pathway to both non and pre-tertiary level TCE courses such as Dance, Drama/Theatre Performance and Music. The program is led by an experienced teaching team, committed to passing on their extensive industry knowledge about life in the performing arts.
