International Enrolments

A world-class education in a safe corner of the earth

St Michael’s Collegiate warmly welcomes international students. Sharing cultures and experiences encourages understanding, acceptance and forms deep friendships among our young women.

Our international students are offered academic excellence, a nurturing environment, individual development and the opportunity to develop their English language abilities.

International students who complete their Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) are supported by Collegiate to be accepted by leading universities around Australia.  Recent graduates are currently studying successfully at the Universities of Melbourne, Queensland and Sydney.

The Hobart lifestyle

The School is fortunate to offer world-class education in a safe and friendly community. Visitors love our pristine wilderness, gourmet food and wine, historic architecture, unique wildlife and the world-renowned MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art.

As well as a convenient inner-city location, the School enjoys idyllic grounds and ample green space for student wellbeing. We are only a few minutes’ walk from the CBD, the vibrant waterfront precinct and the legendary Salamanca Market.

The Boarding House is in the leafy gardens of the Senior School campus. It provides a safe, caring and supervised environment for international students while they are studying and making friends at Collegiate.

Important information for international students

The Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Levy is required by the Commonwealth Government and is payable prior to commencement at the School. Students must maintain OSHC for the period covered by their visa. The School arranges OSHC on a 12 monthly basis, and the levy is added to your daughter’s school fees each year.

The Australian Government, Department of Immigration and Citizenship Living In Australia web pages contain information and publications about life in Australia, and links to government settlement services, including help learning English. These pages also provide information about Australian values and the cultural diversity of Australia’s people.

The Australian Government wants overseas students in Australia to have a safe, enjoyable and rewarding place to study. Australia’s laws promote quality education and consumer protection for overseas students. These laws are known as the ESOS framework and they include the Education Services for Overseas (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code 2007. Parents and students should make themselves familiar with this framework.

The Overseas Students Ombudsman investigates complaints about problems that overseas students may have with their private education and training in Australia. Overseas students or their family/friends who are concerned about a problem a student is having can contact the Ombudsman. The Overseas Student Ombudsman is independent and impartial.
