Boarding

Our Boarding House

Collegiate has a long history of providing a home away from home for its students. Young women from Years 5 to 12 and from all parts of Tasmania, interstate and overseas live in the warm and caring environment of the Boarding House, located on the Senior School campus in Macquarie Street.

The Boarding House sits among green lawns and established gardens and there’s always somewhere to play or relax. Our students also enjoy access to our indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, performing arts centre, music and dance studios, student centre and library.

Boarders engage in craft projects, dining out, cooking, excursions, movies and many other social activities that support strong and balanced lifestyles. The Boarding House has a selection of games and puzzles, a piano, Lego, sewing machine, WiiU, sporting equipment and bikes to keep students busy after school and on weekends. We are just a short walk from Hobart’s renowned art galleries, the Salamanca precinct, shops, theatres and restaurants.

My daughters love the boarding community and experience. As parents we miss them terribly, but know how much they love the boarding house, and the other opportunities available to them living there. I have seen the boarding house, and the school, bring out the best in both of my young ladies.

Student Care

It is important to us that we know each student as an individual. We offer a nurturing environment with a happy community atmosphere, where each person is treated with respect.

The Director of Boarding is supported by six staff members and the Principal to apply a sensible, compassionate and measured approach to the care of students.

A popular canine figure in and around the Boarding House is Phyllis, our much-loved resident cavoodle. Named after one of Collegiate’s early principals, Phyllis contributes to our homely atmosphere and is a source of laughter and comfort for all our girls.

Casual and Day Boarding

Casual and day boarding is available for day/local students.

Casual boarding is provided for current day/local students from Year 5, who require accommodation for short periods from one night to one term.

Day boarding services are provided from the end of the school day to the end of boarders prep time at 8.30 pm. This allows day/local students to use the Boarding House for after-school activities, to join in the evening meal and to have supervised homework.
