About Our Uniform
At St Michael’s Collegiate School, our uniform is a strong symbol of unity and identity. Our girls wear the uniform with distinction and pride. To honour our heritage, the uniform includes elements of tradition while remaining practical, stylish and contemporary.
Uniform Shop appointments
The School Uniform Shop has introduced a new appointment system.
All families are asked to make appointments for January 2022 through the online booking system.
We invite all new families to book a time for an individual new uniform fitting. An appointment takes between 30 to 45 minutes with all uniform items (including school shoes) available from the School Uniform Shop.
Students are welcome to attend a fitting without a parent – we will take all care to fit students correctly.
Shop online
The Collegiate School Uniform Shop Online enables you to purchase your daughter’s uniform online at any time. Your order can either be delivered to your home, collected from the Uniform Shop or from Middle or Senior School receptions (same day collection available if order placed before midday).
Collegiate Buy and Sell Facebook group
A closed Facebook group exists for the Collegiate community. This is a forum to buy, sell and swap items such as School uniform, books and sporting equipment. Request your membership to the group here.
Uniform History
For many girls, the first introduction to the Collegiate uniform is the red and white checked smock, worn from Kindergarten to Year 2 in the Junior School. In the 1800s, the Sisters would collect the children each morning and take them to School. Children less fortunate would be warmly clothed in a smock and nourished with a bun. Hence, you will sometimes hear our smocks today still referred to as ‘bun smocks’.
Whilst today the smocks serve largely to protect the formal uniform, they are a lovely reminder of our heritage and the modest beginnings from which we have grown.
Today our uniform requirements vary to suit the developmental age of the girls in our care. The well-known tones of Collegiate red, navy and white are easy to wear and have become readily identifiable in Hobart.
